Synopsis
Demetria lives with her mother and brother on the High
Island. It is a strict and unfriendly society, with
no singing, dancing or storytelling. Girls must only
learn to knit and must obey their fathers, brothers
and, ultimately, husbands. Demetria’s life begins
to change when a prisoner, Ianto Morgan, is billeted
with her family. Ianto tells her about life outside
the island and reveals the wonderful truth about flight
(there are no birds on the island) and the amazing fact
that girls can do anything that boys can. Eventually,
Ianto gives Demetria the strength to escape…
